…and what I found interesting about it


I heard many things about data but I have learned from experience that it is the most troublesome element in every digital product I ever had to deliver. It ranges from complexities such as acquisition, noise, fidelity, variability, volume, velocity, etc… I even used to think that it was important to define the value before collecting the data.

BUT, I have changed my mind about it. Simply because every data point becomes valuable eventually. So, if you are already nearby the data source, why not add it for future use. Oh yes, I am engineer and we love data. Nonetheless, I have felt many times that we could have saved a trip back to the edge. More so, we now see anecdotal evidence that the same data points are recycled for different purpose suggesting that we do not always have the full value proposition when we define the data collection requirements.
